Raven’s Elderberry Syrup Kit

Herbal magic for the darker half of the year.

Welcome to your Raven Botanica Elderberry Syrup Kit! This recipe layers a simmered blend of elderberries and warming spices with a finishing infusion of elderflower and holy basil (tulsi).

Take your time, enjoy the process, and let your kitchen fill with the fragrance of the season.

Before You Begin

Your kit includes:

  • Dried elderberries, echinacea root, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom in the jar

  • A separate little bag of dried elderflower and holy basil (tulsi)

You'll need:

  • 3 cups filtered water

  • Honey (½ cup for every 1 cup of finished liquid, or to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste

  • A saucepan, fine-mesh strainer, and measuring cup

The Recipe

Step 1: Simmer the Herbs

Transfer all the herbs from the jar into a saucepan. Add 3 cups of filtered water and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat and simmer gently until the liquid has reduced by approximately half.

Step 2: Add the Finishing Herbs

Remove the saucepan from the heat.

Open the small baggie and add the elderflower and holy basil (tulsi). Cover and steep for 20 minutes.

Step 3: Strain and Measure

Strain the mixture thoroughly through a fine-mesh strainer, gently pressing the berries and herbs to recover the liquid.

Measure your finished liquid so you know how much honey to add.

Step 4: Sweeten and Finish

Allow the liquid to cool until lukewarm.

Stir in ½ cup honey for every 1 cup of finished liquid.

Add 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. Taste and add a little more lemon if desired.

Stir until well combined.

Storing Your Syrup

Transfer your finished syrup to a clean, sealed container and refrigerate promptly. Freeze portions you won't use promptly. Because this homemade syrup has no validated shelf life, don't assume a particular refrigerated storage duration.

A note about elderberries: This recipe uses cooked elderberries. Do not consume raw or undercooked elderberries.
